Aug. 26 - Peru battles blazes caused by earthquake, one near the country's famous Machu Picchu ruins.

Authorities are grappling to deal with the extent of the destruction caused by the 8.0 earthquake. The epicentre hit Peru's central coast, killing more than 500 people and destroying more than 32,000 homes, according to the Peruvian government. Emergency services intensify their efforts to battle two fires burning out of control, one in a chemical plant in Lima and the other close to the country's famed Machu Picchu ruins.
