Obama seeks closer ties with Turkey

Apr 6 - U.S. President Barack Obama kicks off his visit to Turkey at the Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Mausoleum.

Obama laid a wreath as he paid his respects to the founder of modern day secular Turkey, a man revered throughout the predominantly Muslim nation.

He was later welcomed in Ankara by Turkish President Abdullah Gul.Turkey is the last leg of an eight-day trip that marks his debut as president on the world stage.

Obama plans to rebuild ties with the secular democracy at a time when he needs Ankara's help in war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
