Solar race ends in water celebration

Oct 29 - The competitors in the 2009 World Solar Challenge celebrate crossing the finish line with champagne and a swim in a fountain in Adelaide, Australia.

Japan's Tokai University team came first with the Nuon Solar Team from the Netherlands coming second and the Infinium team from the University of Michigan coming third.

The teams were elated to finish even though there were technical and mechanical problems along the way and all agreed it was a great event to be involved in.

The solar race has been staged every two years since 1987.
