London Olympic swim site takes shape

(00:33) Rough Cut

Nov 11 - The wave-shaped steel roof of the Aquatics Centre, built for the London 2012 Olympic Games, is set into place in Stratford, east London.

The roof, which weighs over 3000 tonnes and rests on just three concrete supports, was successfully lifted into place completing what was one of the most complex engineering and construction challenges of the Olympic Park build.

Designed by Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid, the swimming and diving venue will form part of the entrance to London's Olympic Park. The main athletics stadium can be seen under construction in the background.

It is expected that the aquatics centre, which will cost around 250 million pounds ($419 million), will be completed in the summer of 2011, leaving a year for testing and trial events.
