(00:59) Rough Cut

Nov 12 - Former President George W. Bush said the United States must resist the temptation to allow government to take control of the private sector as the global economy slowly emerges from a downturn.

In his first public speech since leaving office, Bush said that "the role of government is not to create wealth, but to create the conditions that allow entrepreneurs and innovators to thrive."

Bush was speaking at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where he outlined his plans for a new public policy institute.
