Apr 10 - The Peruvian government is hoping to fight soaring wheat prices with the locally grown potato crop.
The government is encouraging bakers to replace expensive wheat bread with potato bread. Peru imports more than 80 percent of the 1.5 million tons of wheat it consumes each year, and price rises last year forced the government to spend extra cash on food for school children, hospital patients and prisoners.
