Dominican leader wins poll
May 17 - President Leonel Fernandez wins a third term in office.
Fernandez was the Dominican Republic's first president from 1996 to 2000. He then won office again in 2004. Many put his most recent win down to his success in pulling the Caribbean country out of a deep economic slump.
