Protest in Tiananmen Square

(00:43) Rough Cut

Three American Christians protest against China's population control policies in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.

The three Americans, who said they were Protestant and Roman Catholic, shouted denunciations of Chinese policies on family size and abortion.

The protests came as the Games torch began passing through Beijing under tight security.

The three were asked for their passports and then arrested and taken away for questioning. They were later released.

Earlier in the day, two American and two British protesters were detained after they unfurled banners calling for Tibetan independence near the main Games stadium, where the Games open on Friday (August 8).
