Georgian troops pound separatists
Aug 8 - Fighting rages around the capital of Georgia's breakaway South Ossetia as Georgian troops bombard separatist forces..
They're laying siege to Tskhinvali in a bid to re-take control of the territory. The UN Security Council, meantime, held an emergency session on the escalating conflict but failed to agree on the text of a statement of condemnation.
