Sep 17 - Compact Power says the battery it is designing for Ford's all-electric car will not be a constraint to bringing the car to market in 2010.
Compact Power is one of the two lithium-ion battery makers vying for the contract to supply General Motors' Volt. CEO Prabhakar Patil, speaking at the 2008 Reuters Autos Summit in Detroit on Wednesday says, "the battery will not be a constraint in terms of their production timings and plans...we have no concerns about not being able to meet the 2010 production." Patil said one of the keys to driving the cost of a battery down, estimated by some to be about $10,000 dollars for each car, is volume.
