Dec 15 - Many Iraqis said that shoes hurled at U.S. President George Bush by an Iraqi journalist represented the newly-found democracy advocated by the Americans.
Bush's unannounced farewell visit to Baghdad on Sunday was aimed at marking the recent passage of a U.S.-Iraq security pact that paves the way for the withdrawal of U.S. forces in three years time.
But the trip will more likely be remembered for the moment when an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at the American leader's head and called him a "dog" on live television. The incident has transformed the little known 28-year-old TV reporter, Muntazer al-Zaidi into an Iraqi hero.
Helen Long reports.
