Nikkei up, but 2008 worst ever

Dec 30 - Asian shares crawled higher Tuesday as resource-linked firms rose with energy prices, while benchmarks like Japan's Nikkei still ended the year with their worst annual performance ever.

Japan closed the worst trading year in its 58-year history on the plus side, but the benchmark Nikkei declined in every month since May except for December, losing 42 percent.
