Asian shares end bleak 2008
Dec 31 - Asian shares ended 2008 trading on the up side but the year was the worst on record for Australia and the worst in over three decades for Hong Kong .
Australian stocks climbed, though the gains did little to rescue the benchmark index from delivering its worst annual performance ever in 2008.
