Dec 31 - 2008 sent energy prices on the ride of a lifetime, eventually sending prices down 54 percent for the year.
After skyrocketing to a high of $147 a barrel, energy prices came crumbling down, bringing relief to consumers. But the ride up and down was a harsh lesson for consumers and investors.
