Sole support for Gaza in New York
Jan 8 - Protesters hurled shoes at a photograph of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg over his support for Israel as it continued its military assault on Gaza.
Mayor Bloomberg made a brief visit to Israel earlier this week, where he expressed solidarity with Israelis threatened by Hamas rockets.
More than one hundred and fifty people rallied outside City Hall in the rain, throwing shoes at a large photograph of the mayor. The vocal but peaceful crowd shouted, 'shame on you', as protester after protester hurled shoes at the photograph. The gesture of throwing shoes is a deep insult in the Arab world.
