Davos 2009: Wikipedia seeks women
Wikipedia's biggest ambition is to broaden the range of its contributors beyond a hard core of young, male geeks and in particular wants to see more women.
Wikipedia is seeking to broaden its range of contributors, Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Sue Gardner told the 'Davos Today' programme. She said that the participatory encyclopaedia was particularly interested in bringing in more female contributors. Amid rumours of commercial tie-ups, Gardner told 'Davos Today' presenter Axel Threlfall that the only scenario under which the Foundation might accept advertising would be if the alternative was to switch off the servers. She said the organisation saw itself as aligned with educators – a group that was averse to advertising.
