Rare drought hits China

(01:00) Report

Feb. 7 - China's authorities and farmers rush to irrigate in rare drought.

China has declared an emergency over a drought.

The dry winter weather could hurt farmers across the country, particularly in Henan, Anhui and Shandong, where many have lost factory and construction jobs after China's growth faltered in late 2008.

Chinese farmers and authorities are rushing to irrigate parched cropland, as the country's worst drought in half a century continues.

Jim Drury reports.
