Reuters reported that Amazon.com Inc. has planned to expand its mobile platform and broaden its offering of devices beyond e-readers and the Kindle Fire tablet. The Company is to introduce up to five or six tablet SKUs, or stock-keeping units. The tablets will be different sizes, including a ten- inch model.
Amazon.com's Amazon Web Services Announces AWS Storage Gateway to Connect Enterprise Data with Cloud
Amazon.com announced the AWS Storage Gateway, a service that provides enterprises with a new option to securely upload data to the AWS cloud for scalable, reliable, cost-effective storage. The AWS Storage Gateway connects an on-premises software appliance with cloud-based storage for seamless integration between on-premises IT environments and AWS storage infrastructure. The service provides low-latency performance by maintaining data in on-premises storage hardware while asynchronously uploading data to AWS, where it is encrypted and securely stored in the Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). The AWS Storage Gateway supports industry standard storage protocols, enabling customers to take advantage of cloud based storage without re-architecting existing applications.
Amazon.com Unveils $199 Kindle Fire Tablet-AP
Associated Press reported that Amazon.com showed off the Kindle Fire, a $199 tablet computer, challenging Apple's iPad by extending its Kindle brand into the world of full-color, multipurpose devices. ezos also took the opportunity to show off a new line of Kindle e-readers with black-and-white screens and lower prices, further pressuring competitors like Barnes & Noble Inc. that are trying to break Amazon.com Inc.'s dominance in electronic book sales.
Target Corp. To Recall 447,000 Embark Resistance Cords-DJ
Dow Jones reported that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Target Corp. will voluntarily recall about 447,000 Embark resistance cords and cord kits used for exercising. The agency said a black plastic ball attached to the resistance cord's door anchor can unexpectedly release and strike the user, posing an injury risk. Target has received three reports of incidents in which consumers were struck in the eye by the door anchor ball. Two incidents resulted in permanent vision loss, while the severity of the injury in the third incident isn't known. The products were sold exclusively at Target from July 2009 through last month for $10 to $20.
Target Corp. To Recall About 341,000 Additional Step Stools-DJ
Dow Jones reported that Target Corp. is voluntarily recalling an additional 341,000 wooden step stools that potentially can break apart or collapse under the weight of the user, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The latest recall comes less than three weeks after about 206,000 of the step stools were recalled by the retail chain.

Dow Jones reported that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Target Corp. announced a voluntary recall of about 206,000 step stools that the agency said can break apart or collapse under the weight of the user, pose a fall hazard. Target has received 26 reports of the stools breaking or collapsing. Two adults fractured their wrists, and one of those victims also fractured her hip and pelvis. The wooden step stool has two steps and comes in various colors, with a lid on the bottom step that lifts to provide storage. The brands affected are certain models of Circo and Do Your Room. The items were sold at Target and its website from January 2007 through October 2010 for $25 to $30. The Company said consumers should immediately stop using the step stools and return them to a Target store for a full refund.
Target Corp. Expands Recall Of Circo Child Booster Seats-DJ
Dow Jones reported that Target Corp. is expanding its recall of Circo child booster seats due to additional reports of falls involving children. In some booster seats, the belt buckle opens unexpectedly, allowing a child to fall from the chair. The seats, which were manufactured in China, were sold at Target stores nationwide from January 2005 to June 2009. The recall involves about 375,000 seats, including the 43,000 recalled in August 2009.
