Fortum Oyj Inaugurates Biofuel-Fired CHP in Jarvenpaa
Fortum Oyj announced that the Company's new biofuel-fired plant has been commissioned in Jarvenpaa, Finland. The plant utilises biofuels to produce district heat for about 34,000 residents in Tuusula and Jarvenpaa as well as electricity for the national grid. The plant’s annual production is about 280 gigawatt-hours of heat and about 130 gigawatt-hours of electricity. The amount of heat production is equivalent to the annual heat consumption of about 31,000 average-sized Finnish households.
Enel Green Power SpA Begins Construction on Three Wind Farms in Brazil
Enel Green Power SpA (EGP) announced that it has begun construction on three new wind farms, namely Curva dos Ventos, Fontes dos Ventos and Modelo, in the states of Bahia, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte, in northeast Brazil. The Curva dos Ventos wind farm is located in the inner part of Bahia, where EGP is completing construction of Cristal, Primavera and Sao Judas. The new plant, which will have an installed capacity exceeding 56 MW, will bring the total installed capacity in that Brazilian state to over 146 MW when added to the approximate 90 MW of capacity for the three plants in construction. Fontes dos Ventos and Modelo will be EGP's first wind farms in the states of Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte, and will provide an installed capacity of about 80 MW and over 56 MW, respectively. The three wind projects, which will require a total investment of EUR 330 million, will provide energy to both the regulated and the free market under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) that the Company was awarded in the Brazilian New Energy public tender in 2011.
NHPC Ltd Teesta Project Starts Commercial Operation-Business Standard
Business Standard reported that NHPC Ltd's 132 MW hydel plant at Teesta in Sikkim would now supply electricity to the National Grid.The Company informed the stock exchange that 132 MW plant can now sell electricity generated from the station. Commercial operation of the generating station of installed capacity of 4x33MW (132MW) as a whole is declared with effect from midnight of May 19, 2013, the Company informed the BSE.

Fourth Turbine of MPX Energia SA's and Petra Energia SA's Joint Usina Termeletrica Parnaiba I Enters into Commercial Operation
MPX Energia SA announced that on April 12, 2013 Usina Termeletrica Parnaiba I (Parnaiba I) located in the state of Maranhao, Brazil, received the authorization of the National Energy of Electrical Energy ANEEL for the entering into commercial operation of its fourth turbine with installed capacity of 169 megawatt. The project is a partnership between the Company and Petra Energia SA where they held 70% and 30% respectively.
