OriginOil, Inc. announced that it has received its second international patent for its algae harvesting technology from the Japan Patent Office. The invention, titled 'Systems, apparatus and methods of obtaining intracellular products and cellular mass and debris from algae and derivative products and process of use thereof,' was issued as patent number 5284536 in Japan (see image) for a term of 20 years beginning in 2010.

Solarvest BioEnergy Inc announced that it has filed a patent to protect its unique process for the algal-based production of a line of purified Omega 3 products. This patent pending process will allow Solarvest to be in complete compliance with both EU and USDA organic regulations. In addition to being environmentally unsustainable, current Omega 3 production based on wild capture fisheries and processes can not make this organic claim.
