International Consolidated Airlines Group SA:Passengers on a British Airways plane that caught fire taking off from Las Vegas in September are suing the makers of the plane and its engines in Chicago, their lawyers said on Friday - RTRS.The engine of the Boeing 777 burst into flames, forcing all 170 passengers and crew to escape via emergency slides, after a part of a spool in the high-pressure compressor failed, according to findings from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) - RTRS.Now 65 passengers from the United States, Britain, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Germany are seeking damages from Boeing and engine maker GE for pain, suffering, emotional stress as well as financial losses, law firm Stewarts Law said in a statement - RTRS.James Healy-Pratt, head of aviation and travel law at Stewarts Law, told Reuters the lawsuit did not specify any amount but that if there ended up being 100 claimants, then $100 million "would not be unthinkable" - RTRS.But Stewarts Law and U.S. counsel, the Wisner Law Firm, say that at the time of the accident the Boeing aircraft, equipped with GE engines, was "defective and unreasonably dangerous in a number of important respects" - RTRS.A spokeswoman for Boeing in Germany said the company did not comment on legal litigation matters. A spokesman for GE in the United States said GE could not comment on the lawsuit because it had not seen it yet - RTRS.

United Continental Holdings Inc to offer 13 pct pay increase to pilots - Bloomberg - Reuters

United Continental Holdings Inc:United Continental Holdings Inc UAL.N is offering pilots a 13 percent pay increase in 2016 in a contract that would put them at or near the top of the U.S. airline industry's pay scale, Bloomberg reported, citing two people briefed on the plan - RTRS.The 2016 increase would be followed by annual increases of 3 percent and 2 percent, Bloomberg said - RTRS.Reuters reported last week that the second-largest U.S. airline by capacity and its pilots union had reached an agreement in principle to extend the labor contract that covers United's more than 12,000 pilots by two years - RTRS.United's contract with the Air Line Pilots Association International (ALPA) had been due to run through early 2017 - RTRS.The union and the airline in early October agreed to enter into talks to negotiate an extension of the contract, ahead of original plans to open talks in 2016 - RTRS.The company does not discuss proposed labor agreements, a United spokesman said in an email. ALPA was not immediately available for comment - RTRS.Nited's management has been focusing on securing labor contracts following a leadership change in September - RTRS.New Chief Executive Oscar Munoz, now on temporary leave following a heart attack, has said the integration of United and Continental since their 2010 merger had been "rocky" for employees and customers - RTRS.
