Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA announced that the Company continues to expand in Europe and will open a new base of operations in Madrid in summer 2014. The new base in Madrid is Norwegian’s fifth base in Spain, along with Alicante, Malaga, Las Palmas and Tenerife. Along with the new base, the Company also launches six new routes from Madrid to Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Hamburg, Warsaw and London.

Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA Establishes Two New Subsidiaries as Part of Change in Company Structure

Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA announced that the Board of Directors has decided on a new company structure to ensure international growth and necessary traffic rights. Norwegian Air Shuttle will still be the parent company. Two fully owned subsidiaries will be established, each with their own air operator's certificate (AOC) - one in Norway and one in the EU. The company intends to offer pilots at bases outside of Scandinavia permanent employment. All pilots permanently employed in Scandinavia will be transferred to the Norwegian operating company. In line with legal developments in Europe, fully owned country-specific resource companies will be established. Hired pilots will be offered permanent employment locally in the respective resource companies.

Aeroflot OAO Establishes New Low-Cost Airline

Aeroflot OAO (Aeroflot) announced that it has established a budget airline named Dobrolet. Originally, it was the name of the joint-stock company established in 1923, a predecessor of today’s Aeroflot. Dobrolet will be based in the Moscow region. The fleet of the new airline will consist of Boeing- 737-800NG’s in one class configuration. It is assumed that the low-cost carrier will start operating in spring of 2014. At the initial stage the airline will fly to the destinations in the European part of Russia. The reduction of transportation cost up to 40 % compared to the traditional carriers will be achieved in several ways. Among them are: the increase of the number of seats in the cabin of an aircraft by reducing the pitch between the seats and fixed backrests; only direct ticket sales; an additional payment for a comfort seat, checked baggage, priority boarding, and meals on board; a possibility to book and sell additional services online. Aeroflot owns 100% of shares in the new company. An estimated investment in the project will be around $100 million over the first two years. The airline will operate 8 aircraft in the year of the launch; the annual fleet growth is planned as an average of 8 aircraft per year. Vladimir Gorbunov is appointed the Director General of Dobrolet.

Icelandair Group hf's Icelandair Hotels Opens New Hotel in Downtown Reykjavik

Icelandair Group hf announced that the Icelandair Hotels, a subsidiary of the Company, is to open a new hotel in the center of Reykjavik in the summer of 2015. The name of the hotel will be Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Cultura. The hotel will be located in the so called Hljomalind Spot and will contain 142 rooms along with facilities for both indoor and outdoor restaurants. The project will be implemented in cooperation between Icelandair Hotels and Thingvangur, which is the owner of the site and will be in charge of the constructions. Icelandair Hotels will lease the hotel facility for 25 years.

Aeroflot OAO Plans to Set up Low-Cost Airline-Interfax

Interfax reported that Aeroflot OAO (Aeroflot) will set up a low-cost airline that will be a wholly owned subsidiary, the Company said in a statement, citing a decision made by its Board of Directors. Based on the demand for such a model of air services in Russia, the Board of Directors deemed it advisable to create a budget airline with 100% equity participation by Aeroflot, the Company said. Aeroflot said that the core product of the low-cost airline would be completely different from what Aeroflot itself offers. Mr. Savelyev said earlier that the future airline would operate about 15 aircraft. The creation of the company will take six months after the adoption of the necessary amendments to the Air Code and Russian aviation rules.
