Ekornes ASA Reduces Capacity by 20% In Eight-Week Period

Thursday, 8 Aug 2013 08:05am EDT

Ekornes ASA announced that the Company's furniture factories in Norway will be switching to a four-day week with effect from weeks 33/34 until the end of week 40, in a period of eight weeks. Ekornes Hareid will begin in week 33, while the other plants will begin in week 34. However, the measure may be reversed in response to any significant changes in the order situation during this period. The measure does not apply to Ekornes Beds, which manufactures and sells Svane mattresses. At the start of the summer holidays the Company reported that its order reserve at the end of June was significantly lower than the year before, and lower than expected. Order receipts during the four- week summer break have been good, but not sufficient to prevent an adjustment in production capacity in September and the first part of October. In agreement with employee representatives, therefore, capacity is being reduced by 20% during this period.
