It's in new and improved design with the same mission that's its predecessors. To find out if life ever existed on Mars. Scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Curiosity will defend beneath the parachute and then during the final seconds prior -- landing it will be lower than it tethered to the surface. Once on the ground the rover will be able to roll over obstacles up to 75 centimeters high and travel up to ninety meters per hour. One of the goals of curiosity is to determine whether Mars ever had in the environment capable of supporting life. To that and the -- will be focused primarily on that detailed study of martian rock. -- rock singer JPL's lead scientist on the project says the rover is well equipped for this mission. I I think there's gonna be one instrument which a lot of people will be interest -- them. -- certainly in terms of how it works. It's a laser and it's powerful enough so that distances up to about seven meters or roughly twenty feet. It -- a small hole the rock and that when that happens. It will happen several times a second and so it will look like a rapid fires sparking. In the distance so -- big explosion but it's gonna get sparking a little little tiny rock. So it's gonna become only doing graffiti on Mars and then from that you get the composition of the rock inaudible -- we want studied more detail. NASA expects the new -- to be operational growth -- martian year or about two earth years. Thanks to an onboard plutonium based nuclear battery. Without all the improvements NASA scientists believe curiosity. Will be able to travel farther and faster than previous rovers . While providing the best -- yet from the red planet . And -- Reuters.
