U.S. to review aid to Egypt

Jan 28 - White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on Friday that the U.S. will review its aid to Egypt-- currently running at about $1.5 billion a year. Jon Decker reports.

As Egyptian authorities continued their crackdown on sweeping protests in major Egyptian cities, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on Friday that the U.S. will review its aid package to Egypt-- currently running at about $1.5 billion a year. SOUNDBITE: White House spokesman Robert Gibbs saying (English): "We are monitoring closely the situation as I have said. We will be reviewing our assistance posture based on events that take place in the coming days so that is certainly part of it." Egypt is the second-biggest recipient of American foreign aid after Israel. Separately, Gibbs admitted that the evacuation of the U.S. embassy in Egypt has been discussed among the President's national security staff and acknowldged that President Obama still hasn't spoken with President Mubarak.
