Dramatic video of the massive tsunami engulfing Japan surfaces in the earthquake's aftermath. Shot on Friday by TV Asahi, the footage shows cars speeding away, hoping to escape the giant waves as they hit Kesennuma City. Relentless, the 10-meter high waves crash down on boats and cars in their path. Even homes are not able to withstand the tsunami's force and are swept away. The devastation has left residents wondering whether the country, prone to quakes, can withstand another. (SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) 61-YEAR-OLD RETIREE EMIKO NAKAHARA SAYING: "It's been a lot of horrible damage up to this point, and everyone is saying that this is the most devastating earthquake to hit Japan. I have to wonder what will happen and only hope that there aren't anymore quakes. That's the best way, as there's already all this damage." The 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami have killed over 700 people so far, with officials predicting the death toll will likely reach over 1,000. Many appear to have drowned in the tsunami's churning waters. The earthquake was the fifth most powerful to hit the globe in the last hundred years and the strongest in Japan since records began more than 100 years ago. Jessica Gray, Reuters
