Residents of Benghazi -- the main rebel city in eastern Libya -- widely welcome the death of Osama Bin Laden. One man says Bin Laden was an opportunist who had given Muslims the world over a bad name. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) NASSER ALMADANI, RESIDENT OF BENGHAZI, SAYING: "Osama Bin Laden took advantage of the situation in the Arab world and mainly the Palestinian cause. He also took advantage of the negative emotions of the populations in Islamic countries against Europe and America and carried out terrorist attacks in a manner that makes Muslims look bad." Another rebel fighter says Al Qaeda's founder was 'a creation' of the United States. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SALAH ALABEEI, REBEL FIGHTER, SAYING: "As for Osama Bin Laden, he was used as an excuse against the Arab and Islamic world, even though he was the creation of America. They got rid of him yesterday; they got rid of the evil which they originally created and planted. Who made Osama Bin Laden? America." Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had blamed Al Qaeda for the insurrection which began in February. But the words of these rebels suggest otherwise. U.S. President Barack Obama said Bin Laden was killed in a firefight with American forces in Pakistan on Sunday. Travis Brecher, Reuters
