Devastation in the wake of a bomb blast in Peshawar. A car bomb in the northern Pakistani city targeted a U.S. consulate convoy, killing one Pakistani passer-by and wounding 10 other people. A U.S. embassy spokesman said no Americans were killed in the attack, although one did sustain minor injuries. Peshawar police said a booby-trapped car appeared to have been parked at the side of the road. It exploded as one consulate vehicle was near, slamming it into a near-by electricity pole. One witness describes what happened. (SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) WITNESS, SHEHZAD, SAYING: "I was on my way to work in this area. As I passed through this way, a big blast occurred. I could not see anything for a while, the smoke was all over. Then I saw this car against the pole." The Pakistani Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. They have vowed to avenge the killing of Osama bin Laden on May 2 by U.S. Special Forces. As a result Pakistan has witnessed a jump in violence, including a twin suicide bombing last week that killed more than 80 people. Travis Brecher, Reuters
