Welcome to Penguin Beach, London Zoo's new home for its 80 resident penguins. The two million British pound or three and a quarter million U.S. dollar enclosure boasts a 1,200 square metre new penguin pool and Adrian Walls, Team Leader of Birds at the zoo says they tried to emulate the penguins' natural environment. SOUNDBITE: Adrian Walls, Team Leader of Birds, London Zoo, saying (English): "These penguins are basically South American and sort of sub Antarctic so are used to rocky outcrops and are also used to sandy and tundra areas so it does replicate exactly where you would find these species of penguin the wild." The penguin community consists of four different species; Black-Footed, Macaroni, Humboldt and Rockhopper and Walls hopes that the new environment will encourage breeding and make for a smoother transition into the wild, if necessary. SOUNDBITE: Adrian Walls, Team Leader of Birds, London Zoo, saying (English): "If I can sit back watch the penguins and replicate what they're doing in the world, get them to porpoise in and out of the water then, for me as a keeper, as someone who spends nearly 365 days a year with the penguins, it's really important and it really gives me a buzz." The penguin pool opens for public viewing on May 26th. Tara Cleary, Reuters
