Softbank joins solar power drive

May 26 - Japanese mobile phone company Softbank offers help to build large solar power plants across the country, saying it is willing to commit hundreds of millions of dollars to boost a lagging renewable energy sector. Toshi Maeda reports.

Shares of Japan's Softbank rose more than 3% Thursday after the Telecom giant said it was turning its site on renewable energy. Softbank says it will help build about a dozen solar power plants across the country. And it too willing to invest hundreds of millions of dollars and Japan's lagging renewable energy sector.
