June 9 - A groom and his father are among nine people shot dead while sleeping after a wedding party in Afghanistan. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

Insurgents kill nine wedding guests and wound six more in Afghanistan's turbulent east, in the latest attack on revelers who engage in what militants say is un-Islamic activity. The groom, his father and cousins were among the dead. District Governor of Dur Baba Hamisha Gull: SOUNDBITE: District Governor of Dur Baba Hamisha Gull, saying (Pashto): "The Taliban attacked the guest house at a wedding party and set fire to a car and house, as a result nine people were killed and six others wounded." Authorities say the guests were killed while they were sleeping. No one claimed immediate responsibility for the attack. Deborah Lutterbeck, Reuters.
