U.S. Vice President Joe Biden arrived in China's southwestern city of Chengdu on Saturday (August 20), the second stop on his five-day goodwill visit to China. Biden's aim on this trip is to inject a little amity into the sometimes fractious Sino-U.S. relationship. He is also seeking to assure top Chinese leaders that China's vast holdings of U.S. Treasury debt are safe, following a downgrade of its sovereign credit rating by Standard and Poor's earlier this month. China's Premier gave a ringing endorsement of the U.S. economy in their meeting together on Friday (August 19), saying he was confident in its resilience.
