(ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: The zoo in Berfordshire, UK welcomed its newest arrival recently -- after a wait of 700 days. Despite its tardy arrival, a male elephant calf was the smallest pachyderm ever born at the zoo -- weighing just 104 kg at birth. The normal gestation period for an Asian elephant is 22 months but this calf, who has not yet been named, took near two years to make his debut. it is the third offspring of the mother elephant, named Azizah. Although on unsteady feet, the calf is already venturing out of the elephant barn. Just days after he was born, the calf frolicked with the rest of the herd -- playing with his siblings and suckling his mom. This is the longest pregnancy recorded at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.
