While her husband, U.S. President Barack Obama was meeting with his APEC cohorts on Sunday (November 13), First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a spouses luncheon. Obama met with the spouses of 11 countries in Honolulu, Hawaii, for the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). All but one of the eleven spouses were women; Tim Mathieson who is the boyfriend of Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard also attended the luncheon. After the lunch, a private ceremony was held to dedicate a garden to the first lady. Eleven trees were to be planted, representing each dignitary spouse that attended the luncheon.
