U.S. seeks "forceful" Arab League message on Syria

Nov. 15 - State Department spokesman Mark Toner says the U.S. hopes the Arab League will ''send a forceful message'' to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to halt months of bloodshed against protesting Syrians. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

We have -- from our embassy in Damascus at 42 civilians were killed by regime forces on November 14. I would certainly seen reports with estimates. That number significantly higher but that's. That's what we've been able to determine. This goes on top of the 87. Civilians. That were killed by regime forces between November 11 and thirteenth. A lot of these were protesters. We're out celebrating the Arab League decision and -- calling for us not to step down. You're right the Arab League is set to meet tomorrow in Rabat. As well as and initiate a new prohibition against the European investment banks that dispersants on Syria. -- we have the Arab League meeting tomorrow with the king of Jordan came out yesterday and said that decides to step down. And we also have Turkey coming out today with very forceful statements about the situation in Syria so I think what we're seeing here and continue to see is that.
