The major GOP candidates engage in a little gamesmanship as they leave the campaign trail to speak at the 2012 Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. Sam Jacobs reports Mitt Romney seems to make some needed headway with the Republican party faithful.

The packages where those conservative Americans come in -- of the people who are most active involvement you know -- at his -- and that there was a little -- -- gamesmanship. Newt Gingrich's campaign was handing out letters following me around he. Author of a botany fan calling -- Santorum. I'm defender of being labor costs Rick santorum's biggest the border pasta -- the wealthy investors make fun of -- I'm in front of the packed crowd. I and we saw Romney supporters after Santorum a little bit. So it's been a day where there's been a little bit about candidates mixing it up and supporters mixing it up as. As he -- it is where Republicans come to throw red meat and the question was which candidate the audience is really getting beat up. I think we and it this afternoon news given really strong performance he is. Perhaps not so well known as the conservative he's known as somebody news and views navy's fifth a little bit. And so he had to coming today and talk about where his conservative values on the ground that he talked about his business experience and his family and his day. And awaited the audience at least seemed fine very convincing. I was raised in a home that was shaped by and rooted in conservative values. The values that allowed my parents to achieve their dreams. Are the same values they instilled in my siblings and me. Those are values I just talk about their values that I live every day. -- exit door and came up this morning and made his speech attacking Romney saying basically that he was the only one who did. Present a clear contrast to Barack Obama and that's when he filed an election. We're not gonna win this election with. Over a lopsided money advantage as we won't have walked in the fall. Pres Obama have more money whoever our nominee is. So just think about what it's gonna take. It's gonna take ideas vision contrast. A record of accomplishment. That you go up against the failed policies of Barack Obama that's the winner. So as we move forward in the campaign this day is going to be an important -- and trying to figure out where exactly conservative stand. And where saint -- Romney positioned themselves from here on out.
