Former president of Tokyo Electric Power Company or TEPCO, the operator of the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant, faces questioning in Japan's parliament An investigative panel is seeking to uncover the causes of the world's worst nuclear disaster since the Chernobyl meltdown. He and other Tepco executives have said repeatedly that the scale of the natural disaster was unpredictable, but company documents show the utility was well aware of the potential risk. The testimony coincides with efforts by Japan's government to restart two nuclear reactors in the west of the country to cope with anticipated power shortages in the hot months of July and August.
