June 8 - U.S. President Obama says Europe has the tools to address financial turmoil as he calls for more action in the United States. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

U.S. President Barack Obama says that the financial turmoil in Europe could impact the U.S. economy, but that the Europeans have to the tools to address the problem. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "The bottom line is the solution for these problems are hard but there are solutions. The decision required are tough but Europe has the capacity to make them. And they have America's support." While Obama said he had not intention of scolding Europe, he is pushing U.S. lawmakers for action. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "Given the signs of weakness in the world economy. Not just in Europe, but some softening in Asia, it is critical that we take the actions that we can to strengthen the US economy right now." Obama is locked in a tight race for the White House with Republican rival Mitt Romney, who wants to make the election a referendum on the president's handling of the economy as he touts his own credentials as a successful businessman.
