The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.5 and struck the border between Sichuan and Yunnan province just before 4:00 p.m. (0800 GMT) local time on Sunday (June 24), at a depth of 9.3 kilometres (5.8 miles).
