Turkish troops and military vehicles head towards the border with Syria on Thursday. The move comes after Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan gave orders to react to any Syrian threat approaching the frontier. Erdogan, who has given shelter in the border area to rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, announced the new rules of engagement after Syrian air defences shot down a Turkish warplane last Friday. According to Turkish news agencies, a convoy of 30 military vehicles - including trucks loaded with missile batteries - was en route to the border. A separate convoy included anti-aircraft missile launchers, according to a Turkish news agency. Roads were closed to traffic as the convoys, escorted by police vehicles, passed by.
