It took more than four hours to create, and the result is an intricate carpet comprising around 700,000 flowers. Brussels' Grand Place is the site of this biennial flower display, which celebrates the begonia. With 60 million begonia bulbs cultivated every year,Belgium is the world's largest producer. And co-organizer Johan Aelterman says this year's theme is "Africa". SOUNDBITE: Johan Aelterman horticulturist and co-organizer, saying (English): "That's why you see behind me not a lot of grass, not a lot of green but there is red sand, there are a lot of colours, colourful clothes of the African people is the theme of the carpet." Though African ex-pat, Wivine Mayaye, didn't recognize her home continent. SOUNDBITE: Wivine Mayaye, African-born spectator, saying (French): "I could not find African flowers, that is true. I am not an expert in African nature to tell whether those flowers are African or not. But, obviously, I am happy because the theme is Africa." And visitors can enjoy the blanket of blossoms until August 19th.
