ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION) German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she hopes a process towards closer political co-ordination and greater accountability within the euro zone would be agreed on by the end of the year. And says the euro zone needs mechanisms to help countries that are not competitive enough. (SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL, SAYING: "There are further steps we must take. As this crisis must be solved largely politically we need to do what we didn't do sufficiently when the euro was introduced, namely have more co-ordination and more accountability and therefore we have given ourselves until the end of the year - our December meeting - to work on closer political cooperation within the euro zone." "We need mechanisms in the euro zone to help countries that are not competitive enough, to support them, requirement on the one side and solidarity on the other."
