If the Duchess of Cambridge was worried about topless photos of her being published by several European publications it wasn't showing. The UK royal is visiting the Pacific Island of Tuvalu with her husband William. Thousands of kilometres away in a Paris court, a ruling is handed to a lawyer working for the British royal family. It orders the French gossip magazine Closer to stop distributing its current edition, hand over all the offending pictures of Kate in its possession, and not sell them to anyone else. Christopher Mesnooh is a legal analyst. SOUNDBITE: LAWYER CHRISTOPHER MESNOOH SAYING (English): "This decision is very much in accordance with basic French law in the area of privacy and protection of private life. The opinion itself was short, it is well reasoned and the judge came out and said that the royal couple clearly demonstrated that their privacy had been invaded by these photographs. Closer magazine sparked outrage when it published a five-page spread showing photographs of Kate sunbathing topless while on holiday in France. The royal family called the move a 'grotesque' invasion of the couple's privacy. Since then even more of the pictures have been reproduced by an Italian magazine. Closer is yet to identify the photographer who took them. It will be fined 10,000 euros for every day it fails to hand over the shots. Another court in Paris has opened a separate inquiry. It will decide if Closer has commited a criminal offence by publishing the photographs. Andrew Potter, Reuters
