Amateur video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters, said the assault took place on Monday (September 24) as rebels battled government forces. Aleppo has seen fierce fighting in Syria's escalating civil war. Warplanes and thousands of soldiers have poured into the city, as the government tries to stop it falling into rebel hands. More amateur video purported to be filmed on Monday shows rebels sheltering amid heavy gunfire. For 18 months they have been battling military forces across Syria, trying to bring down the government of President Bashar al-Assad. With no end in sight, estimates suggest over 27,000 people have lost their lives.
