Locals gathered near the site where a Yemeni man who worked at the U.S. embassy was killed. SOUNDBITE: Eyewitness Mansour al Hamadi saying (Arabic): "He was coming out of his house and heading to work, when a man called him and yelled 'hey you.' As soon as Qassem turned, the man shot him in the head with three bullets." The attackers were reportedly on a motorcycle when they opened fire on Qassem Aglan, the head of the embassy security team. Several have said the assassination attempt had the fingerprints of al Qaeda. Political turmoil in Sanaa has given the group a chance to tighten its grip on parts of the country over the past few months. Concerns about al Qaeda have prompted Washington to step up drone strikes on suspected militant positions.
