PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL Today's power player: Lorne Michaels on the 37th birthday of the Saturday Night Live. As the show's creator and executive producer since SNL's conception in 1975, Michaels has launched the careers of some of the most successful comedians in the United States, like Tina Fey, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, just to name a few. The last two starred in a film spin-off based on an SNL sketch, "The Blues Brothers". The movie earned over $115 million on a $27 million budget, according to IMDB. Another huge box office hit that had its beginnings on SNL was Wayne's World and its sequel. As if movies aren't enough, Michaels is the executive producer of other NBC shows, including the award winning 30 Rock and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, both which feature SNL alums. As a business, SNL brought in more than $57 million in ad revenues in the first half of 2012, putting it on track to top the more than 105 million dollar figure last year, which was up from nearly 90 million the year before that, according to figures provided by advertising and marketing information provider Kantar Media - a sign advertisers still like Michaels' catchphrase - "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"
