2.9m is today's Daily Digit in Europe - third quarter sales for the current range of Lumia smartphones from Nokia. The figure was 4 million the previous quarter - a drop blamed on significant slowdowns in China as well as Europe. Overall losses for the quarter were smaller than expected at 0.07 euros a share. And net cash was better than forecast at 3.6 billion euros. But the Finnish phone maker is warning of tricky times ahead as it prepares to launch two new smartphones. It's hoping the new product will claw back market share from Apple and Samsung. Shares jumped on the results - because they weren't as bad as expected - but Christmas is still looking bleak. Nokia expects poorer sales than in previous years - and for now 2.9m is not worth phoning home about. Sonia Legg, Reuters
