At least 11 Palestinian civilians are killed Sunday in an Israeli air strike in Gaza. Palestinian medics say it is the highest civilian death toll in a single incident during five days of fighting.
Medics say four women and four children are among the dead.
Rescue workers continue to search for those who may have survived.
Israel withdrew settlers from Gaza in 2005. Two years later Hamas took control of the enclave, which the Israelis have kept under blockade.
For their part, Gaza militants launched dozens of rockets into Israel and targeted its commercial capital, Tel Aviv, for a fourth day.
A deputy to the Israeli Prime Minister spelled out the country's terms for a truce on Twitter saying: "If there is quiet in the south and no rockets and missiles are fired at Israel's citizens, nor terrorist attacks engineered from the Gaza Strip, we will not attack."
