Spirits are high in the "No" campaign. As Scots decide they're "better together" with the UK and say no to independence. Scotland's pro-independence first minister concedes defeat but says the question will not go away. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SCOTTISH FIRST MINISTER, ALEX SALMOND, SAYING: " I accept that verdict of the people and I call on all Scotland to follow suit in accepting the democratic verdict of the people of Scotland.Secondly, the unionist parties made vows late in the campaign to devolve powers to Scotland. Scotland will expect these to be honoured in rapid course." Clackmananshire, was the first local council to declare "No". It set the momentum for the rest of the results. Although, the "Yes" campaign did have significant wins in Glasgow -- Scotland's largest city -- and also Dundee. The leader of the Better Together campaign Alistair Darling emphasised that despite voting "No", there would still be change. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ALISTAIR DARLING, LABOUR MP AND ONE OF THE LEADING 'NO' CAMPAIGNERS, SAYING: "Today is a momentous result for Scotland and also for the United Kingdom as a whole by confirming our place within the union we have reaffirmed all that we have in common and the bonds that tie us together, let them never be broken [cheers].We have made a decision for progress and change for Scotland in the United Kingdom. Come on Scotland, let's get on with it together. There was a high turnout as fifty five percent of Scots voted to stay in the UK, ensuring that the 307 year old union between Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom would continue for a few more years at least.
