New York ready for historic concert

Dec. 11 - New York's Madison Square Garden gets prepped for the 12-12-12 concert to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The impressive line-up of artists will include Alicia Keys, Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel. Elly Park reports.

New York's Madison Square Garden is getting readied for a historical night. The so-called 12-12-12 concert, which takes place on December 12th, 2012 will bring together the biggest names in the music industry. The concert is to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy that swept through the northeast region of the United States in late October. Many of the artists performing are from the area and are eager to help out. SOUNDBITE: Alicia Keys, Singer And Musician, saying (English) "I was born and raised in New York. And I was here during everything that happened with Sandy. To witness my city and the tri-state area really going through something that nobody could control it." SOUNDBITE: Jon Bon Jovi, Musician And Lead Singer Of "Bon Jovi", saying (English) "This storm lasted a day, the effects of it are going to last a lifetime. But in our time in need people come together in a way that is unique to who and what we are. And I love that." The concert will be available to nearly 2 billion people in 190 countries. Organizers say that they have raised over $30 million dollars (USD) in ticket sales so far, and hope to raise more on the day of the concert.
